Hymn of the Month
Trinity Hymnal #94 – How Firm a Foundation
The authorship of How Firm a Foundation is a mystery. The lyrics were originally published in a hymn book collection by John Rippon, but he attributed it to someone with the single initial K. Though the writer of these words remains unknown, the subject matter of the song is no mystery. The Christian who trusts in the word of God is secure.
In Verse 1, the writer emphasizes the certainty and sufficiency of God’s Word. Verse 2 emboldens fearful hearts by reminding them of God’s power. Verse 3 comforts those who are grieving with God’s presence and providence. Verse 4 encourages the afflicted to persevere in faith with confidence and hope. Verse 5 affirms his unchanging love to those who are aging. And Verse 6 triumphantly announces that no power – not death, hell, or any such thing – will separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. We hope that this hymn renews your zeal to read God’s Word and to rest in His unbreakable promises.
Prayer for Unreached Peoples
The Kurmi of India (Evening Service, 5/2/2021)
The Kurmi of India are a Hindi-speaking ethnic group of nearly 19 million people. They mostly live in agricultural settings, and are nearly 100% Hindu. The Kurmi are concentrated in North India, where the Indian Church is virtually non-existent. Please pray for faithful gospel witnesses to fill this region with churches among the Kurmi people.
The Teli of India (Evening Service, 5/9/2021)
Imagine if only 1 out of 5,000 people in New York state identified with some form of Christianity. This is the condition of the Teli of India. Be praying that Hindi-speaking Christians would plant evangelistic churches and train disciple-making disciples who will endure to the end.
The Isan of Thailand (Evening Service (5/16/2021)
The vast majority of the 18+ million Isan in Thailand are Buddhist, but 0.27% of the population reports as being evangelical Christian – which gives much reason for thanks. Continue to pray for the advance of the gospel – for healthy churches, seminaries, and pastors.
The Kunbi of India (Evening Service (5/23/2021)
The Kunbi people of India is an ethnic group of more than 18 million. As you can see from this month – India is in urgent need of prayer. Only about 1 out of 2,000 Kunbi are Indians. Nearly everyone else would identify as Hindu. The state of Gujarat tends to be very pro-Hindu, and prayer for the church to thrive in this region is greatly needed.
