- A church of Jesus Christ: This is who we are. We do not belong to ourselves but to Jesus, who is our good and gracious shepherd. He made us, he saved us, and he has called us into community by his gracious love. His word informs what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. To belong to him truly is our greatest comfort in life and in death.
- To magnify Jesus and love Kalamazoo: We love Kalamazoo and want to serve the neighbors God has given us. We believe we do this best by showing them the exceeding beauty and goodness of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the gospel, and everything we need and desire is found only in him (Eph. 1:3). He is our greatest joy and highest pleasure, and so we are eager for all people to see Christ in his glory (2 Cor. 4:6), taste Christ in his goodness (Ps. 34:8), and know Christ in his grace (Eph. 2:4–5).
- By gathering and growing worshipers of Jesus Christ: As Jesus prepared to ascend to heaven, he commanded his disciples to go out and make more disciples who worship and follow him (Matt. 28:19–20). We believe that is our mission as well. We want to see people come to faith in Jesus (gathering) and then help them mature in their faith (growing).
- Who daily delight in him: The Westminster Shorter Catechism states that man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Therefore, we believe that living for God’s glory means daily pursuing our joy in him above all else. Our highest duty is to delight in God! Our prayer is that, as we see the glorious beauty of Christ and live each day in the light of his love and grace, he will become our chief love and joy. The most important thing we do every day is fight by God’s grace to see, know, and delight in Jesus.
